DUTIES OF A COUNCIL MEMBER
As a precinct
representative (voting or alternate), one is expected to make a personal
commitment to service, not only to your precinct, but also the community in
general. The suggestions below can help you perform your duties efficiently and
effectively.
Acquaint yourself
with the Bylaws Š a copy is included in this packet.
Attend the monthly
meetings regularly. Meetings are scheduled for 7 PM on the first Wednesday of
each month at the Cayucos Vets Hall.
If you will miss a
meeting, call the president or vice-president. The Bylaws state that a
representative with three-unexcused absences will be removed from the Council.
Be an active
participant in the Standing Committee to which you have been assigned. Participation in the special or ad-hoc
committees, that are formed from time to time, is also encouraged.
Read the material
mailed to you before every meeting. Be prepared for discussion and action.
Maintain contact with
the other representatives of your precinct. You have a common interest in
representing your constituents. Teamwork is especially important when opinion
in your precinct needs to be sampled.
Contact the president
to have items placed on the CouncilÕs agenda.
Bring community
concerns to the attention of the Council.
Design ways to be
known to your constituents. Show your interest in their concerns, and encourage
them to contact you. One-to-one contacts are fundamental to our relationship to
the community.
Recognize that it is
teamwork that brings vitality to the Council. We are all volunteer participants
in an advisory organization. At times it may appear to be a thankless
task, but one reward of service to
Cayucos is the knowledge that we have done the best job possible.
